This marvellous amenity located right at the heart of the village of Gissing was established in 1982 by local families, following the closure of the former County Primary School in 1978. We are based in the old school building. Since its inception, the Centre has developed to provide a range of services and activities for the under 14s in the village of Gissing and surrounding parishes. Latterly, we have chosen to focus our efforts on early years and making ourselves something of a magical kingdom for the under 5s. We like to use the natural environment and natural resources as much as possible to further the learning and development of our children and we seek to provide loose parts, both large and small, to spark imagination and challenge throughout a child's early years.
The grandfather of children who attended writes of the Centre: “Deep in the Norfolk countryside, exists a very special place that caters solely for the well being of the children who are fortunate enough to go there”. He goes on to describe the Children’s Centre as having “an atmosphere of ‘Family’ – an atmosphere of harmony, happiness and enjoyment. With the degree of involvement of all concerned, staff, helpers and parents the net effect is that Gissing Children’s Centre feels like ours”. This perfectly describes the ethos that has evolved since 1982 and is one we wish to perpetuate within this unique community resource.
“It's so much fun at Gissing! My children love it!.”
“My child has attended Gissing for a total of 3 years, and it's fair to say that they loved every moment of it..”
