Our Committee

We are a well-established and unique community resource, managed by a volunteer parent management committee. We employ trained and experienced staff to run the sessions and to do a lot of the background administration involved with running an early years setting according to the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We are Ofsted registered and in our last inspection (May 2016)  we received a grading of 'outstanding in all areas'. This is the Pre-School's third 'outstanding' award in nine years!

Our committee are responsible for employing and retaining the staff, for fund raising, for overseeing general developments and for ensuring the continuance of this wonderful place and the many things we offer. The committee consists of the roles of chair, secretary and treasurer in addition to a varying number of other members; we ideally need a minimum of 8 people to operate effectively. Committee membership is open to any parent/carer whose children attend the Centre or, indeed, members of their family eg grandparents, uncles, aunts etc or any members of the community with a particular interest in the future of the Children's Centre. The full Committee meets four or five times a year with sub-committee meetings in between, either at the Centre or, if more convenient for members, at the home of one of us; it is very informal. Notices are displayed at the Centre in advance of meetings and parents/carers or members of their family are very welcome to come along. We are very much a community concern and we value the input of all parents/carers, however large or small that is. We do need your support to help to continue to run the Children's Centre as a positive and innovative resource for children and their families in the locality.

Some families prefer to give more practical help rather than to join the committee. We always have issues of minor maintenance at the Centre and we always need help with other, smaller tasks, eg doing local shopping from time to time, washing toys, washing tea towels and paint aprons, making playdough etc.

The effective running of the Centre totally depends upon the voluntary efforts of parents and the more people who offer to help, the more the load is spread and the smoother the Centre operates. We are all in the same boat, with young families and commitments outside of the Children's Centre. We appreciate anything you can do for us, no matter how small. Please come along to one of our committee meetings to give us your ideas and to see if there is something you could, or would, like to do. We very much hope to see you there.
